Minecraft server icon

The Minecraft server icon preset creates a 64 × 64 PNG named server-icon.png, rather than an ICO renamed as a PNG. Its output settings use an official support reply as corroboration; installation paths and activation procedures depend on the server software and control panel.

Try the preset. Choose one image, then use “Download server-icon.png”. This preset uses transparent padding to preserve a rectangular image's proportions. The preset does not upload images or alter the normal ICO size controls.

64 × 64 PNG · transparent padding · processed on your device

We selected a PNG in the converter, clicked the Minecraft preset and decoded the downloaded file. That sample was named server-icon.png, used PNG encoding, and decoded to 64 × 64 pixels with RGBA channels. Its file size was 326 bytes for this one sample, not a required size or a promise about other images. This checks the downloaded file itself, not how it appears on your Minecraft server.

The Minecraft Java setup guide links to the community-maintained Minecraft Wiki server.properties page. That link was confirmed in the official page, but the linked wiki text could not be read in this check. A link is not a published Mojang icon specification. The settings above rely on a Minecraft Education support-agent reply as corroboration, with its edition limitation retained.

Renaming does not convert the file

The preset passes image pixels to the existing converter's PNG encoder. It does not create an ICO and change its extension. The .png suffix describes the intended encoding; changing a filename alone does not re-encode bytes. For a local check, decode the downloaded file as PNG and read the decoded width and height instead of trusting the preview or filename.

Placement and activation

Find server.properties in your server files and place server-icon.png in that same location. Use your panel’s file manager to identify the actual path rather than assuming a universal folder name.

After replacing the icon, check the Multiplayer list. If the image has not changed, restart the server once and check again. The exact path and activation procedure depend on your server software and control panel; we have not tested every implementation.

Three file mistakes to check

A renamed ICO: the name ends in .png, but the file remains an ICO container. Generate the PNG through the preset instead of renaming the ICO.

A stretched rectangle: the saved square has distorted artwork. This preset uses transparent padding and scales the artwork proportionally; it does not stretch or crop it.

A filename that does not match: a download has a different basename or an extra extension. Check the saved name against server-icon.png; a browser may append a duplicate-download suffix when the destination already contains that name.
